QuickWave Add-In for Autodesk® Inventor®

QW-AddIn — build full EM projects directly in your CAD

Define complete QuickWave simulations (3D and V2D axisymmetric), including materials, ports, boundary conditions, periodic structures, excitation and post-processing — all inside Autodesk® Inventor®. Automatic meshing with AMIGO streamlines cells for wavelength targets without over-refinement.

CAD-native

Inventor-embedded editor

Use Inventor geometry directly: assign EM materials, ports, wires; set boundaries & sources; define periodic/V2D projects without leaving CAD.

Smart mesh

AMIGO auto-meshing

Automatic Meshing Intelligent Generation Option (AMIGO) optimises mesh for wavelength targets in all media and avoids unnecessary small cells.

Productivity

Optimisation & sweeps

Drive geometry from QW-OptimiserPlus for parameter sweeps and optimisation, fully linked to QW-Simulator.

Core capabilities

  • 3D and V2D (axisymmetric) project definition directly in Inventor.
  • Periodic structures setup and boundary conditions.
  • Material libraries & property assignments; ports, wires, sources.
  • Post-processing tasks (e.g., S-parameters, radiation patterns).
  • Integration with QW-Simulator & QW-Editor workflow.

Meshing & model control

  • AMIGO auto-mesh with wavelength-based control.
  • Mesh tools: Snapping Planes and Mesh Boxes for local refinement.
  • Consistent cell size management across heterogeneous media.

QW-BHM (microwave heating)

Define heating parameters and enable rotation in the XY plane around an axis parallel to Z. Create the rotation axis by selecting an edge or body; adjust its location numerically or with the mouse.

Optimisation workflows

Use QW-OptimiserPlus for parameter sweeps and multi-objective optimisation with QW-AddIn acting as the geometry editor. Optimiser can pause/abort steps when needed.

Typical workflow

  1. Open your Inventor part/assembly and launch the QuickWave Add-In ribbon.
  2. Assign materials, define ports/wires, set boundaries and excitation.
  3. Configure AMIGO mesh and optional Snapping Planes / Mesh Boxes.
  4. Enable periodic or V2D axisymmetric mode if applicable.
  5. Set post-processing (S-parameters, radiation, monitors).
  6. Run in QW-Simulator or hook to QW-OptimiserPlus for sweeps.
  7. (Optional) Define QW-BHM heating with rotation in XY around Z-parallel axis.

Compatibility

  • Autodesk® Inventor® (supported versions installed on the machine).
  • Works with QuickWave product line (QW-Simulator / QW-Editor / QW-OptimiserPlus).
  • Optional module within QuickWave distribution.

Installation & docs

Install: run start.exe from the QuickWave installer. Default path: Program Files\QWED\QW-AddIn\[version]. The add-in registers via a .addin config in ProgramData\Autodesk\Inventor AddIns\. If you change the path manually, update the config file accordingly.
