Our presentation

Extension of Reference Materials for Standardization in the Production of Large Deployable Antennas

Presented in the NEWTON room at ESTEC. We discussed the role of well-characterised reference materials in standardising manufacturing workflows for large deployable antennas.

Abstract — recap

Our paper addressed the need to characterise and evaluate materials at mmWave frequencies. Round-robin testing highlighted the rise of dielectric losses when moving microwave materials into mmWave use. Using a new measurement setup, we extracted electromagnetic parameters via consistent principles across labs and integrated results into standardised benchmarking. We focused on low-loss materials (e.g., Cyclo Olefin Polymer, Precision Teflon), previewed work on standardising Fused Silica, and underlined the role of standardisation in the space industry — including Digital Twin principles for parameter extraction.
